A former all-conference player at Texas State, Stephanie Hughes is in her first season as interim head coach after serving as assistant coach for the previosu seven years.
UTSA has enjoyed its most successful run in school history during Hughes’ seven seasons as an assistant. The Roadrunners won three Southland Conference regular season titles and captured the 2004 and '06 Southland Tournament crowns and earned the only two NCAA Tournament appearances in school annals.
Over the past seven seasons, the Roadrunners have posted an overall record of 220-163 (.574 winning percentage), including a school-record 42 wins in 2005. The program owns a 137-64 record (.682) in Southland play since 2004, the top mark among league schools during that span.
UTSA also has led the NCAA in home runs in three of her seven seasons with the program, slugging a league-record 105 in 51 games in 2006 for a then-NCAA-record 2.06 per-game average. Additionally, Roadrunners have combined to earn 45 all-conference nods and seven all-region honors in the last seven years.
Hughes came to UTSA from Navarro (Texas) College where she was an assistant coach for one season.
Hughes was a four-year letterwinner at Texas State. The Angleton native began her collegiate softball playing career in 1997 and was a two-time all-conference and all-region outfielder.
She posted a .251 career batting average that included 24 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 77 RBIs, 50 walks and 22 stolen bases.
On Texas State’s career lists, she currently is fourth in career at-bats (655), tied for seventh in hits (167) and ninth in runs scored (87). In single-season categories, Hughes is tied for sixth in runs scored with 38 (2001), fifth (194/2001) in at-bats and tied for ninth in walks with 24 (2001).
Upon graduation from Texas State with a bachelor of science degree exercise and sports science in 2001, Hughes served as a Bobcats assistant coach for one season.
