AUSTIN, Texas — UTSA defeats No. 8 Texas 8-7 in 12 innings on Tuesday, Mar. 18 at UFCU-Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. This was the Roadrunners’ third win over a ranked opponent this year.

Caden Miller started the game off with a leadoff homer on the second pitch of the game. The Roadrunners found themselves with bases loaded. Norris McClure was able to drive in UTSA’s second run of the first inning on a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring James Taussig.
The Longhorns were able to add one run in the first at the bottom of the first. Texas then took the lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI double and an RBI single, taking a 3-2 lead. Texas extended their lead in the bottom of the third by scoring two runs on a throwing error to make the game 5-2 with six innings left to play.
Texas extended their lead to 6-2 on a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fifth. UTSA started their climb back as Garrett Gruell singled to left field, scoring Taussig, who reached on a walk. With bases loaded, Ty Hodge hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Detlefsen, who reached on a double. Nathan Hodge drove in the third run of the inning on a double down the left-field line, scoring Lorenzo Morresi.
In the top of the seventh, Miller led off the inning with his second homer of the day to even the game at 6-6. With Mason Lytle on second, Morresi reached on an error, allowing Lytle to score, giving the Roadrunners the 7-6 lead.
In the eighth inning, Texas was able to tie the game at 7-7 on a lead-off home run. Both teams went scoreless in the ninth forcing the game to go into extra innings.
In the top of the 12th with two outs, Andrew Stucky hit a solo home run to put the Roadrunners up 8-7.
Late in the game, pitchers shined, as Zach Royse, Robert Orloski and Braylon Owens all held the Longhorns scoreless over four innings.
