Box Score

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team suffered two defeats on Saturday, first falling to Stephen F. Austin, 4-0, before dropping an extra-innings contest to UMass Lowell, 3-1.

The Roadrunners (5-8) fell to the Ladyjacks (8-6) to close out round robin play, with freshman Arlette Hernandez (4-2) getting pegged with the loss after going the distance and fanning seven without allowing an earned run. For SFA, Crimson Bryant (3-4) earned the victory.

Six different ‘Runners logged hits against SFA, but UTSA was unable to push a run across, stranding nine. The Ladyjacks capitalized on Roadrunner miscues to score all four of their runs in the top of the fifth.

UTSA threatened in the bottom half as senior Madison Hornback and Stafford each singled before advancing into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Junior Samantha Mundine was walked to juice the bases, but the Ladyjacks managed to escape the inning unscathed on a fielder’s choice groundout.

From there, the Roadrunners were unable to mount a comeback, falling 4-0, and earning the No. 2 Seed in bracket play.

Against the No. 3 seeded River Hawks (4-5), UTSA fell, 3-1 in extra innings, as sophomore Reagan Stoudt (0-3) got the loss and Olivia DeCitise (2-3) the win. Stoudt fanned six over seven innings of action, scattering six hits and allowing just two earned runs.

At the dish, newcomer Demiree Stafford picked up the squad’s lone RBI, and freshman Brookelynn Meador went 2-for-3.

The Roadrunners got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, as sophomore Skylar Rucker legged out a leadoff triple, before coming home on a Stafford sac fly.

The River Hawks finally broke through in the sixth, as they capitalized on a UTSA error to load the bases, and a batter was plunked, tying the contest, 1-1. Stoudt then tossed a strikeout and induced a groundout to halt any further damage.

Neither team scored in the seventh to send the game into extra innings, and UMass Lowell knocked in two in the top of the eighth to go up, 3-1.

The ‘Runners were unable to plate a run in the home half, and will now wrap up the Roadrunner Classic on Sunday, taking on Northern Colorado in the consolation final at 1 p.m.
