About the UTSA Roadrunners
The Roadrunners are looking to snap the current losing streak in the friendly confines of the Convocation Center. With only one game since November at home, UTSA opens a three-game homestand against the 49ers on Wednesday. Across that stretch, the opposition hasn’t been slight, the seven teams sporting a combined 76-30 record (71.7 percent).

The Roadrunners average 70.1 ppg on 38.6 percent shooting, ranking fourth in the American (94th nationally) in field goal defense (41.8 percent) and fourth in the conference at defending the three (31.8 percent). The Roadrunners also rank 75th in the NCAA on the glass with 39.1 rpg.

San Antonio redshirt junior point guard Austin Nunez saw a big offensive lift over the first two games of conference play, logging a career-best 22-point outing at Florida Atlantic and averaging 17 ppg on the week. Nunez ties for the team high assists (32) with 2.5 apg. Steady as always, Lima, Ohio graduate student Jamir Simpson has scored in double-figures in 13-of-14 performances, going over 20 points seven times toward his 17.5 ppg average and logging his 1,500th carer point in Florida, shooting 40.1 percent from the field and leading UTSA with 36 threes. On the glass, freshman Kaidon Rayfield has 6.0 rpg to go with 7.8 ppg and sophomore Baboucarr Njie leads the team with 20 blocks.

About the Charlotte 49ers
UTSA’s first sub-.500 opponent since the Jacksonville Classic, Charlotte is off to a 7-8 start (1-1 American) in the third season under Aaron Fearne. Playing the last four at home, the 49ers have won three in that span, including a 104-100 double-overtime conference victory over Wichita State on Saturday. The 49ers are looking for their first road win (0-3) and are 1-15 the past two years away from Charlotte.

Charlotte has had several close losses and averages 74.3 ppg with 74.0 ppg allowed, shooting 44.9 percent while giving 46.0 percent for the opposition. On the glass, CLT has 35 rpg. The 49ers spread the points around, with seven players over 5.0 ppg. That group is topped by sophomore Ben Bradford at 13.2 ppg with 30 assists and 20 steals. Leading Charlotte in that stat, Bradford is shooting 81.8 percent at the line with the most appearances. Providence transfer Anton Bonke and Marshall transfer Dezayne Mingo put up 11.5 and 10.2 ppg, respectively. Bonke tops the team with 8.9 rpg and is 31st nationally with 2.07 bpg. Mingo leads CLT with 65 assists (4.3 apg).

Series History
Charlotte leads the 14-game series, 8-6, but the Roadrunners hold the last win – which snapped a three-game skid in the series. Last season in Charlotte, the Roadrunners claimed the 83-80 victory in the March 9 back-and-forth matchup that featured 10 lead changes and five ties. In Charlotte’s last visit to the Convo (Jan. 13, 2024), the 49er defense stopped UTSA’s perimeter threat and held UTSA at just enough distance for the 66-58 win. The series dates back to 2014 as familiar opponents from their shared time in Conference USA and the series is split at 3-3 in the Convocation Center.

Up Next
One more at home this week, as Tulane comes to San Antonio for a 4 p.m. tipoff on Saturday as the second half of the doubleheader with women’s basketball (12 p.m.). Next Wednesday, UTSA welcomes Rice to the Convo, before heading to Memphis on Sunday for a nationally televised matchup with the defending American Champion Tigers.
