TAMPA, Fla. — UTSA picks up its fourth American Athletic Conference series sweep in a 3-2 victory over South Florida on Sunday, May 4 at USF Baseball Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

Both starting pitchers dominated, as both teams were scoreless through the first five innings. Braylon Owens was hitless through five full innings before USF took a 1-0 lead on a lead-off home run in the bottom of the sixth.
Lorenzo Morresi led off the seventh with a single through the right side. Drew Detlefsen tied the game for the Roadrunners as he hit a double down the left side to score Morresi, making the game 1-1.
In the eighth, Norris McClure was hit by a pitch to start the inning. James Taussig picked up his first RBI of the day on a double to left center to score McClure, giving UTSA a 2-1 lead.
In the Roadrunners’ final at-bat, Morresi homered to left field to put UTSA up 3-2, This was Morresi’s first homer of the year. USF shortened the lead in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single.
Owens shined as he threw 8.2 innings, giving up just two runs on four hits. Owens struck out seven batters. The 8.2 innings thrown by Owens were a career high. Robert Orloski was called on to face the final batter of the game, and he got a fly out to end the game to earn himself the save.
