WICHITA, Kan. — Roadrunners improve to 9-2 in American Athletic Conference play thanks to a dominant 16-8 victory over Wichita State on Saturday, Apr. 12 at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kan.

Caden Miller led off the ball game with a walk. Mason Lytle then hit a towering homer over the scoreboard in left field on the first pitch he saw to put UTSA up 2-0. This was Lytle’s fifth home run of the year.
Andrew Stucky picked up the Roadrunners’ second hit of the game doubling off the left-center wall. A walk from Norris McClure put two runners on. Drew Detlefsen picked up his 56th RBI of the year on a double to score Stucky. Jordan Ballin walked to load the bases for UTSA. The designated hitter, Cade Sadler, drove in the Roadrunners’ fourth run of the game on a ground out to the first baseman.
Lytle’s bat stayed on in the second as he singled to be the first runner aboard. James Taussig reached on a fielder’s choice, advancing Lytle to second. Stucky picked up his second double of the day, hitting the ball down the leftfield line, scoring both Lytle and Taussig.
In the third, Ballin led off the inning with a single. Ty Hodge followed that up with a single of his own. Lytle stepped up to the plate and delivered his third hit of the game, this time a double down the left field line to score both Hodge and Ballin, putting UTSA up 8-0.
In the fourth, Wichita State notched their first run of the game on a fielder’s choice.
Miller doubled in the top of the fifth to get the bats going again. Lytle was then hit by the pitch to put two aboard. Taussig followed that up with a single to load the bases for the Roadrunners. Stucky was able to hit his third double of the game, scoring both Lytle and Miller. McClure then hit his first homer of the season to left field scoring Taussig and Stucky to put UTSA up 13-1.
In the sixth inning, Wichita State was able to score four runs on two homers. Taussig led off the seventh inning with a double to right field. Stucky drew a walk before being called out on a fielder’s choice hit by McClure, who reached safely. Detlefsen then flew out to the centerfielder, allowing Taussig to score.
In the bottom of the seventh, WSU hit a two-run homer to put seven runs on the board.
Hodge picked up his second hit of the game on a single to center field to lead off the eighth. Lytle then singled up the middle to put two on. Taussig then hit the third consecutive single to score Hodge. Sucky got ahold of his fourth hit of the game on a single to load the bases. McClure grounded out to the second baseman, scoring Lytle and putting UTSA up 16-7.
In the eighth, Wichita State scored their eighth run of the game on a single to right field.
Braylon Owens was the starter for UTSA, and he threw 5.1 innings racking up six strikeouts. Christian Okerholm came into relief and tossed 2.2 innings allowing three earned runs with one strikeout. Sam Simmons closed out the game tossing one innings not allowing a single hit.

- Taussig had three hits in the ballgame for his eighth multi-hit game of the season.
- Stucky also had four hits and four RBIs for his eleventh multi-hit game and eighth multi-RBI game this year.
- McClure drove in four runs for the Roadrunners for the first time this year.
- Detlefsen had two hits and two RBIs for his 14th multi-hit game and 15th multi-RBI game of the season.
- Hodge recorded two hits for the ninth time this year.
