UT Arlington defeats Roadrunners 7-4 in game two

ARLINGTON, Texas— UTSA loses to UT Arlington 7-4 in game two of the three-game series on Saturday. Feb. 15 at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.

UT Arlington scored early as they managed to drive in two runs in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout. The Mavericks then scored four runs in the third with three RBI singles.

After a scoreless fourth, the Roadrunners manage to score their first run of the season, all thanks to senior Mason Lytle as he managed to drive in Norris McClure on a single to left field. The run went down as unearned as the left fielder bobbled the ball, allowing McClure to score and Lytle to advance to second.

Mike DeBattista came into the game in the fifth for starter Braylon Owens. Owens closed his book with 4.0 innings pitched, allowing six runs on seven hits with one strikeout. In the top of the sixth, UTSA got its second run as Jordan Ballin managed to drive in James Taussig on a fielder’s choice.

The Mavericks answered the Roadrunners one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.

UTSA kept fighting as they scored two runs in the seventh. The first came thanks to a wild pitch scoring McClure. With Lytle on third, pinch hitter Drew Detlefsen drove a ball over the centerfielder’s head for an RBI double.

DeBattista exited the game with 3.0 innings pitched; he allowed one run on three hits, striking out five batters. Kendall Dove finished the game for the Roadrunners on the mound; he sat down the three batters he faced.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
-Norris McClure went 3-for-5 with two runs; this is his second multi-hit game of the season.
- Mason Lytle had two hits on five at-bats for his first multi-hit game.
-James Taussig had two hits in his two at-bats with a walk, marking his first multi-hit game.
-Through two games, the Roadrunners’ pitching staff has not allowed a single walk.
