TEMPE, Ariz. – The UTSA top-flight doubles pair of Alan Magadan and Tomás Pinho have joined the national Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, as the association announced on Wednesday that Roadrunners’ tandem came in at No. 27 in the latest doubles standings.
Magadan (Senior/McAllen, Texas) and Pinho (Redshirt Sophomore/Oporto, Portugal) became the first ranked pair of the 2024 spring season and are 4-1 together with wins over Denver, Utah, Oklahoma and a ranked victory over then-No. 3 Eliot Spizzirri and Cleve Harper from fourth-ranked Texas – among the highest-ranked doubles wins in program history. Spizzirri/Harper are currently ranked fifth, while the pair Magadan and Pinho topped at Oklahoma, Alex Martinez and Kholo Montsi, come in at No. 40 in the latest rankings.
Magadan started the fall ranked 44th in doubles with a different partner, Tiago Torres, but working with Pinho, the pair reached the ITA Texas Regional semifinal in Fort Worth. Magadan is no stranger to the national rankings, reaching as high as No. 6 nationally last season with now-graduated partner Sebastian Rodriguez after winning the Texas Regional and appearing in the fall national quarterfinal, then advancing to the postseason Round of 16 with a victory at the NCAA Doubles Championships last spring in Orlando.
The Roadrunners are heading into the weekend with a 3-3 record and traveling to face Texas Tech in Lubbock on Sunday, Feb. 11, taking on the Red Raiders (2-3) for the third time in the past four years.
