Roadrunners fall to No. 63 Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla.– The UTSA men’s tennis team (4-6) saw a slow start to singles end in a 4-1 loss as UTSA kicked off a weekend in the Sunshine State at 63rd-ranked Miami (7-2) on Friday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes notched the first victory in doubles play via the top court, but Jackson Ross and Garrett Skelly rallied the Roadrunners on court three, dealing Martin Katz and Antonio Prat a 6-4 defeat that would even the sets. However, the Hurricanes battled out the third set for the point on court two.

Starting with the doubles deficit, the Roadrunners fell behind 3-0, but had the opportunity to rally. On court two, Tiago Torres put the Roadrunners on the board with a 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) besting of Katz. Three remaining courts split and went to a third set, but Vladislav Melnic slipped past Alan Magadan on the top flight, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, before the Roadrunners could make any more headway, clinching the 4-1 UM win.

Quoting Coach Sergey Avdeyev
“We had a very slow start in singles and we can’t do that against good teams. Credit to some guys who were able to fight back and make it close, but at the end we wasted too much energy coming back.”
