No. 15 LSU outlasts UTSA in 13 innings at Alex Box

BATON ROUGE, La. – Jordan Thompson's walk-off home run in the 13th inning lifted No. 15 LSU to a 10-9 win over UTSA baseball to clinch the series for the Tigers, in a nearly five-hour thriller in front of 3,861 on Saturday at Alex Box Stadium.

UTSA (5-5) trailed LSU (13-3) 4-0 heading into the eighth inning before erupting with three in the inning and getting a game-tying tally in the ninth to force extra innings. UTSA took a 7-4 lead after three in the top of the 10th inning but Cade Doughty – his second three-run homer of the game – to tie it at seven. After a scoreless top of the 13th, Thompson ripped a 1-1 offering out for the walk-off homer.

The Roadrunners got three hits from Griffin Paxton, who added three walks, and a 2-for-5 game with four RBI from Tapia. After a passed ball on a high fastball allowed Tapia and Bergeron to move into scoring position, Ian Bailey drew a bases-loaded walk. Pinch hitter Rock delivered an RBI single into centerfield, with Tapia scoring.

In the ninth inning, Lamb led off with a hard chopper to third that was scored as an error. Paxton followed with an RBI double into the left-centerfield gap, allowing Lamb to motor home with the tying run.
