Lozano shares Sam Hall Intercollegiate individual crown

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Zander Lozano carded a 4-under-par 67 on his way to tying for the individual title, helping UTSA to a 10th-place tie at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Hattiesburg Country Club (par 71/6,902 yards).

Entering the final round in ninth place after a 72-69—141 on Monday and eight shots off the pace set by Louisiana-Monroe's Andoni Etchenique, Lozano posted the day's low round to climb past Etchenique and into a tie with Billy Tom Sargent of Western Kentucky at 5-under 208. Due to travel constraints, a sudden death playoff was not held and the two players were declared co-medalists.

Lozano's 67 featured five birdies against just one bogey, as the junior from Fair Oaks Ranch finished in a tie atop the leaderboard for the second time in his collegiate career (2015 Lone Star Invitational / lost in playoff). Lozano ended the 54-hole event with 13 birdies en route to his seventh career top 10.

Behind Lozano's effort, the Roadrunners tied with Southeastern Louisiana for 10th place at 13-over 865. UTSA carded rounds of 298 and 286 on Monday before posting a 3-under 281 on Tuesday.

Bryce Alley was the second-highest Roadrunner, as the senior from Longview tied for 35th at 4-over 217 in the 84-man field. After a 78-70—148 on Monday, he turned in a 2-under 69 that was highlighted by five birdies.

Dylan Godfrey and Sean Meehan finished in a tie for 53rd at 7-over 220. Godfrey, a sophomore from Bryan, shot 73 after rounds of 75 and 72 on Monday. Meehan, a sophomore from San Antonio, opened with a 73-75—148 and finished with a 72 on Tuesday.

Collin Clark rounded out the UTSA lineup in 82nd (79-83-78—240).

Louisiana-Monroe claimed the team title with an 8-under 844. Host Southern Miss was the runner-up (848), followed by Mississippi State (852), WKU (852) and Rice (853) in the top five of the 15-team field.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 3-4 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
