HUMBLE — Sean Meehan fired a 4-under-par 68 on Sunday to help lead the UTSA men’s golf team to an eighth-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate.
Meehan registered seven birdies in his final round on the par-72, 7,096-yard Golf Club of Houston layout. The freshman from San Antonio wrote down five birdies as part of a 32 on the front nine en route to a season-best score. He finished in a tie for 24th at 4-over 220 (73-79-68) in the 90-man field.
J.J. Lindsey and Zander Lozano tied for 41st at 8-over 224. Lindsey, a senior from Adkins, posted rounds of 71, 76 and 77, while Lozano, a sophomore from Fair Oaks Ranch, recorded a 73, 76 and 75.
Brett Hogan and Bryce Alley rounded out the UTSA lineup in 51st (76-74-77—227) and 62nd (79-76-75—230), respectively. Dylan Godfrey competed as an individual and finished 81st (84-80-74—238).
The Roadrunners finished eighth in a loaded field that featured six nationally-ranked squads. UTSA carded an 890 (293-302-295) to place just ahead of Conference USA rival Louisiana Tech (891) and McNeese State (892).
No. 35 Arkansas rallied from a 13-stroke deficit to win the team title with a 9-under 855, one shot ahead of 38th-ranked Houston’s 856. Those teams were followed by No. 24 South Carolina (868), No. 44 Baylor (876), 40th-ranked SMU (878), Troy (881) and No. 34 Charleston Southern (885). Charlotte (903), New Mexico State (907), Rice (910), Sam Houston State (910), Northern Illinois (911) and Houston Baptist (916) finished outside the top 10.
Arkansas' Taylor Moore captured the individual crown with a 9-under 207 (73-66-68).
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Feb. 29-March 1 when they travel to Lafayette, La., to compete in the Louisiana Classics.
