EL PASO — J.J. Lindsey fired his second 68 of the fall season to help lead the UTSA men's golf team to an eighth-place finish at this weekend's Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational, which wrapped up on Sunday at Butterfield Trail Golf Club (7,307 yards/par 72).
Lindsey recorded six birdies — three on each side — en route to matching his season-best score and helping the Roadrunners post a 1-under-par 287 in the final round. For the tournament, the senior from Adkins played the par fives at 7-under and wrote down 14 birdies to finish in a tie for 29th at 2-under 214.
Competing as an individual, Sean Meehan was the low Roadrunner. The freshman from San Antonio Johnson High School tied for 11th with a 6-under 210, as he opened the event with back-to-back 69s before turning in an even-par 72 on Sunday. Meehan was steady with 40 pars, the second-highest total in the field, and his 210 easily bettered his only previous outing this fall, a 235 at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
Zander Lozano was the top finisher in the UTSA lineup for the fourth time this season, tying for 16th with a 5-under 211. The sophomore from Fair Oaks Ranch, who was 6-under on the par fives, opened with a 70 and 68 and finished with a 73 on Sunday. He finished the fall with team-best 70.73 stroke average in 15 rounds.
Bryce Alley carded a 1-over 217 (72-71-74) to tie for 39th, while Dylan Godfrey (75-70-74—219), who registered an eagle on the par-five 18th in his final round, and Brett Hogan (73-74-72—219), who led the Birds with 16 birdies, tied for 50th.
UTSA finished eighth with an 8-under 856 (286-283-287), three shots behind New Mexico State (850) and six back of UMKC (850), which featured individual medalist Antoine Rozner, who carded a 19-under 197 (63-67-67).
No. 47 Kansas claimed the team crown with a 38-under 826, followed by 40th-ranked Saint Mary's (837), UTEP (838), Marquette (840) and No. 35 Idaho (848).
The Roadrunners are off until they open the spring season from Feb. 8-9 at their own UTSA Oak Hills Invitational.
