PEARLAND — Zander Lozano registered his third top-10 finish of the fall season to lead the UTSA men’s golf team to sixth place at this week's Bayou City Collegiate Classic, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Golfcrest Country Club (7,272 yards/par 72).
Lozano fired his second 1-under-par 71 in as many days to close out a 2-under 214 and tie for fourth place. The sophomore opened with a 71 on Monday morning and shot even-par in the second round. The Fair Oaks Ranch native had four birdies in his final 18 holes and finished the event with a tournament-best 41 pars.
Bryce Alley turned in the Roadrunners' low round of the day with a 2-under 70 that was highlighted by five of his team-best 13 birdies. The junior from Longview finished in a tie for 19th place at 6-over 222 (80-72-70).
Brett Hogan shot a final-round 73 to move into a tie for 37th at 225 (78-74-73), while J.J. Lindsey and Sean Meehan rounded out the UTSA lineup in 45th (74-76-77—227) and 66th (81-79-75—235), respectively.
Competing as an individual, Dylan Godfrey tied for 45th (76-73-78—227).
UTSA carded a 289 in Tuesday's final round to close out an 886 (303-294-289) and finish in sixth place in the 14-team field. The Roadrunners were six shots ahead of Conference USA rival Rice (892) and 13 in front of 42nd-ranked McNeese State (899).
Houston won the team title with a 6-over 870, followed by North Texas (872), Kansas (878), Texas State (881) and Lamar (883).
Houston's Matt Dunn beat McNeese State's Robert MacIntyre in a two-hole playoff after the pair tied for first at 5-under 211.
The Roadrunners will conclude their fall campaign on Oct. 23-25 at Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational in El Paso.
