On March 21, 2024, head UTSA volleyball coach Carol Price-Torok announced the hiring of Emily DeWalt. DeWalt joined the program as the squad's newest assistant coach following a stint at UT Arlington and a highly decorated playing career at Texas State.
The Mavericks went 21-11 across the 2023 season, earning a NIVC berth in the process. At UTA, she primarily worked with setters and offensive systems while taking on critical roles in recruiting and scheduling. DeWalt also has coaching experience from her time as an assistant coach with the United Volleyball Club and the San Antonio Magic Volleyball Club.
One of the best to ever don a Bobcat uniform, DeWalt collected five Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Year awards, two SBC Player of the Year accolades, was a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American, and a four-time VolleyballMag.com All-American.
Texas State's all-time assist leader, she compiled 6,131 across her collegiate career and also finished with the third-most digs (1,546) and the seventh-best attack percentage (. 307) while leading TXST to three conference titles and five championship game appearances.
DeWalt graduated magna cum laude from Texas State in December of 2021 with a Bachelor of Education in Exercise and Sports Science Pre-Rehabilitation and received a Master of Education in Secondary Education in May of 2023.
