Emily DeWalt joins UTSA Volleyball staff

Carol Price-Torok has announced Emily DeWalt as her newest staff member

SAN ANTONIO — On Thursday, head UTSA volleyball coach Carol Price-Torok announced the hiring of Emily DeWalt. DeWalt will join the program as the squad's newest assistant coach following a stint at UT Arlington and a highly decorated playing career at Texas State.

“I am ecstatic to welcome Emily back home to San Antonio!” said Price-Torok on her newest hire. “To get some of the best talent here in San Antonio, you have to surround yourself with the best people. Emily backs that up not only with her stellar playing career but her passion to teach and grow the game. She's an up-and-comer, and I am excited to have her mentor our setters. She will elevate our offense, and that is exactly what we need to do to continue our success. Her mindset on the offensive side of the ball is extraordinary, and I can't wat to have her in the gym. Our aim is to continue to grow volleyball at UTSA and in this community; what better way than to have one of 210's own back to help us do that.”

“I'm thrilled to be working alongside Emily!” said assistant coach Drew Davis. “She is an outstanding addition to our staff and will only raise the bar for what we have envisioned for UTSA Volleyball. Emily brings a very high level of understanding about the game, the setter position, and the city of San Antonio. Her resume speaks for itself in the aspect of her volleyball career and we are ecstatic to add her knowledge and training to our gym! UTSA Volleyball will reach new heights with her addition to our staff, and we are so excited to welcome her back home to the 210!”

The Mavericks went 21-11 across the 2023 season, earning a NIVC berth in the process. At UTA, she primarily worked with setters and offensive systems while taking on critical roles in recruiting and scheduling. DeWalt also has coaching experience from her time as an assistant coach with the United Volleyball Club and the San Antonio Magic Volleyball Club.

One of the best to ever don a Bobcat uniform, DeWalt collected five Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Year awards, two SBC Player of the Year accolades, was a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American, and a four-time VolleyballMag.com All-American.

Texas State's all-time assist leader, she compiled 6,131 across her collegiate career and also finished with the third-most digs (1,546) and the seventh-best attack percentage (. 307) while leading TXST to three conference titles and five championship game appearances.

DeWalt graduated magna cum laude from Texas State in December of 2021 with a Bachelor of Education in Exercise and Sports Science Pre-Rehabilitation and received a Master of Education in Secondary Education in May of 2023.
