Head UTSA Women's Basketball Coach Karen Aston named Angel Almaguer an Assistant Coach ahead of the 2024-25 season, and he will enter his second season on the bench in 2025-26.
No stranger to UTSA, Almaguer has rapidly risen through the ranks, initially serving as a practice player for the 2021-22 season, followed by roles as a student manager in 2022-23 and as a graduate assistant in 2023-24.
He has helped the program reach new heights in his first season as an Assistant Coach, propelling the squad to a 26-5 record that represents the best in program history. The Roadrunners had a 17-1 mark in American Athletic Conference play for a regular-season title, and UTSA was an at-large selection for the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament [WBIT].
As a Graduate Assistant in 2023-24, he saw the 'Runners go 18-15 and pick up their inaugural postseason victory via an 80-62 routing of Northern Colorado in the Opening Round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament [WNIT].
Almaguer graduated with a Bachelor of Kinesiology in Exercise Physiology from UTSA in May of 2022 and received his master's degree in May of 2024.
