Michael High joined the UTSA staff as an assistant athletics communication director in February 2019, serving as the primary contact for volleyball, baseball, women's tennis and football.
His responsibilities include all aspects of the following: public relations, social media management, internal and external communications, publication production duties for each sport.
High works directly with local, regional and national media and aides in marketing and event operations.
Prior to UTSA, High served as the assistant sports information director at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, as the primary contact for baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, men's and women's basketball and golf. He assisted with football and volleyball, along with compiling game stats, creating game programs, maintaining the website Twitter, writing game stories and press releases.
High also created graphics for press releases and social media along with coordinating game day operations with staff, coaches and media. He produced game notes and arranged media requests for interviews with coaches and student athletes.
High also worked as the media relations assistant at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he was the primary contact for the men’s and women’s cross country/track and field and softball. His duties included creating and updating game programs, game notes, media guides, recording and updating stats and daily website maintenance.
In addition, High was the media relations contact for the 2018 Conference USA Softball Championship. His responsibilities included operating as the official scorekeeper for each of the 10 games during the tournament, producing updated stats for competing schools, media, television broadcast talent and staff.
High’s experience also includes scorekeeper/game day media staff for the Chicago White Sox’s Low A affiliate the Kannapolis Intimidators and game day media relations staff with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.
High interned in media relations for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, provided sports information at Norfolk State University and worked in media relations and as scorekeeper for the Altamonte Springs Boom of the Florida Collegiate Summer League.
High also served as a member of media relation staffs for conference championships and the 2018 NCAA Basketball Championship First and Second Rounds in Charlotte, North Carolina.
After retiring from the United States Army, High started his career in sports information as a student worker at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. High was the WODU Studios sports director and the play-by-play and color analyst. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Old Dominion.
