About the UTSA Roadrunners
Led in the opener by acting head coach Nick Bowman, the UTSA Roadrunners got the first glimpse of 11 of the 14 new Roadrunners on this season’s roster, as well as returning sophomore guard Dorian Hayes. Though the Roadrunners took the loss at San Jose State, the offense was on the move much of the game, with redshirt senior guard Preston Turner and redshirt junior guard Shey Eberwein hitting their marks in the opener. Both scored 15 points, with Eberwein going a perfect 5-for-5 and 3-for-4 at the free throw line, adding in a pair of boards and four assists. Meanwhile, Turner knocked down four from the perimeter and topped UTSA with four boards. Coming off the bench, senior guard Isaiah Coleman scored nine of his 12 points in the first half. Junior point guard KJ Tenner topped the squad with six assists, in addition to two steals and 11 points off 5-of-9 shooting. The Roadrunners scored 75 against the Spartans and shot 42.9 percent from the floor, 35.3 percent from three and logged 21 points off SJSU turnovers with 12 from fast breaks.

About the VMI Keydets
Virginia Military Institute out of the Southern Conference (SoCon) is off to a 1-1 start to the fifth year under Andrew Wilson. The Keydets lost at SMU on Thursday night with a 95-70 setback in Dallas, following up a 115-83 triumph over Division II Virginia University-Lynchburg in their home opener.

Coming off a 6-26 campaign, VMI returns some proven talent with two-time SoCon Preseason Player of the Year Rickey Bradley, Jr. and All-SoCon player TJ Johnson returning for their senior seasons, along with SoCon All-Defensive player AJ Clark. An injury stifled Bradley last season, but he averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 2024-25. Johnson had 14 games over 20 points last season, ranking seventh in the NCAA with 3.6 threes per game toward an 18.3 ppg average – in addition to 7.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals. Clark logged 6.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals last year. In addition, the Keydets have added five new players from Europe to this year’s group.

A year ago, the Keydets averaged 72.0 ppg on 40.2 percent shooting with 33.3 rebounds per outing. So far this season, VMI has averaged out to 92.5 points after the heavy-handed non-DI start, shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from three.

Series History
These teams have only met one previous time, on the second game of the 2023-24 season, facing off in Fairbanks, Alaska at the Top of the World Classic. Coached by current broadcaster Tim Carter, UTSA pulled out a 68-52 victory on the strength of Leroy Hurd’s 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, plus 7-of-8 at the free throw line and six rebounds. UTSA held VMI to 28.8 percent shooting as the Keydets fired off 36 threes and the Roadrunners led by as many as 30. Assistant Coach David President was on that UTSA team and had seven points and three rebounds.

Up Next
Back on the road and back on the west coast, the Roadrunners play a return game from last season at Seattle U on Wednesday, Nov. 11 – tipping off at 9 p.m. CT at the Redhawk Center. UTSA returns home for a Sunday Battle for I-35 matchup with Texas State on ESPN2 to close out the week.
