Signed as a freshman out of the Houston metro and Missouri City’s Ridge Point High School, ranked 14th in Texas by 247Sports, 46th at the small forward position and is the son of former NBA center Chuck Hayes. As a sophomore, Hayes averaged 14.3 points and 5.8 rebounds at Ridge Point. As a junior, Hayes logged 17.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game in helping the Panthers to a 23-11 record and a trip to the state playoffs. He also played in The Circuit with Houston Hoops EYBL averaging 11.3 points and 2.0 assists last summer.
