THE WEEK THAT WAS

Last Friday, UTSA hosted UAB, suffering their first straight-set defeat at home this fall. The Roadrunners landed just one service ace to the Blazers' 11 as the defeat moved them to 7-3 in San Antonio. Two days later, Temple hosted Carol Price-Torok's bunch from Philadelphia. Despite a third-set victory and a tight fourth frame, the Owls prevailed 3-1 as UTSA lost its third consecutive match.

LIBERO LEADER

After spending her first three collegiate seasons at Notre Dame, Alyssa Manitzas returned to her hometown of San Antonio in the spring. The redshirt junior quickly stepped into the starting rotation, opening each of the last 12 straight matches at libero. Her streak of a dozen consecutive contests in the lineup has resulted in a double-digit dig output each time, bumping her season total with 10-plus to 14.

On Sunday, the Cornerstone Christian High School product set a new career high with 23 digs, doing so in four sets at Temple. Manitzas also set a new single-match high by any Roadrunner in 2026, marking the program's second outing with 20 digs or more. The first-year 'Runner is averaging 3.88 digs per set, climbing to 4.27 per frame in eight October bouts.

TRED LIGHTLY

Over the weekend, Caroline Tredwell set a season high with 12 kills against UAB before following it up with 11 more at Temple. The junior paced her team across both matches in the category, hitting .391 in the process. Meanwhile, the third-year Roadrunner added eight more blocks to her ledger, boosting her set average to 0.71 this fall, ranking second on the squad. In conference play, Tredwell is averaging 2.55 points per set, placing her only behind Isabella Arroyave while posting a team-best .319 hitting percentage.

ABOUT THE TIGERS

Memphis is under the direction of second-year head coach Cheri Lindsay Jones, who holds a record of 18-34 in her time with the program. The Tigers are on a three-match losing skid of their own, falling at Florida Atlantic and South Florida a week ago.

UTSA visited Memphis for the two sides' only meeting in 2025 as the 'Runners cruised in straight sets, utilizing a combined 22-dig, 14-assist showing from Megan Hawkins and Giada Obregon to hold the Tigers to a .055 hitting percentage. Ally Tribe and Gigi Mason led an efficient offense with eight kills apiece while Caroline Tredwell and Brooke Elliott each notched five blocks on the road.

ABOUT THE BLAZERS

UAB is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Betsy Freeburg, who holds a record of 69-108 in her time with the program. The Blazers are out to a 9-13 start this year, matching UTSA with a 3-7 mark in league play. The two sides met just a week ago, with Freeburg’s bunch earning a road sweep in San Antonio.

UP NEXT

After wrapping up their road trip on Sunday, the Roadrunners will return home and play their final four regular season matches in Texas. Rice and Wichita State roll in for a pair of contests from the Convocation Center on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Both matchups will be available to follow via utsa.statbroadcast.com and streamed live on ESPN+.
