UTSA falls at league-leading Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The UTSA soccer team (6-4-5, 2-3-2 AMER) faced an early deficit in the road matchup at American Conference leader Memphis (9-3-2, 6-0-1 AMER) on Thursday night at the Billy J. Murphy Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Although UTSA produced a more balanced second half, three first-half goals helped Memphis secure the 4-0 win.

Memphis got off to a hot start, logging the go-ahead goal from Ally Casey in the seventh minute off a free kick on the ground. Despite a heavy barrage from the Tigers, UTSA weathered the storm much of the first half, but Memphis struck twice more before the break with successive goals in the 38th by Zerina Markovic.

Playing from a deficit after trailing 3-0 at the break, UTSA leaned on its toughness in the second half, putting its signature aggressive style on display across the final 45 minutes. In the second period, the Roadrunners limited the Tigers to just six shots and two on-target chances, while recording three shots and one on goal for their ledger.

With the final 4-0 result, Memphis remained unbeaten in conference play.

Creating two solid opportunities for the Roadrunners, one in each half, redshirt sophomore Olivia Christodoulides had two shots and one on goal off a saved second-half free kick.
