Second consecutive win comes in straight sets over North Texas

SAN ANTONIO – On Wednesday, UTSA Volleyball hosted North Texas from the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners swept their way to victory, prevailing 25-19, 25-10, 25-21. With the win, Carol Price-Torok’s bunch climbed to 12-6 overall, improving to 3-4 in American Conference play. The Mean Green dropped to 9-9 with a 2-5 league record.

FIRST SET

After splitting the evening’s first 12 points, Ledisi Kpea landed a pair of kills, with the second kickstarting a 7-1 run commanded by Alyssa Manitzas. The redshirt junior poured in two aces amid the stretch as the hosts took a five-point edge into the media stoppage. Sydney Bryant thwarted UNT’s comeback attempt with two terminations before Isabella Arroyave and Kpea each came away with a block. A .355 hitting percentage guided the ‘Runners to a comfortable 25-19 opening-set victory.

SECOND SET

Three more blocks from Kpea pushed her side in front 9-5 before a UNT service error sent Manitzas back to the line once again. As was the case in set one, the libero led a long run with her serve, capitalizing on four Mean Green miscues as UTSA jumped out in front 17-8. Two ensuing Caroline Tredwell kills sent fellow junior Ally Tribe to the line up nine. An ace from the outside hitter preluded three straight attack errors to cap the frame by a convincing 25-10 margin.

THIRD SET

Tredwell followed up with two more denials and a perfect serve to keep momentum in the hosts’ favor early on. MaKinsey Jones then found the floor twice courtesy of Valeria Ortiz, but the Mean Green responded to take a two-point advantage at the technical timeout. Two more blocks from the ‘Runners highlighted a five-point burst that gave the lead right back at 19-17. Four consecutive errors from the visitors down the stretch set up match point for Megan Hawkins, who sent her serve straight to the floor and capped things at 25-21.
