Tulsa takes Friday night three-set affair

TULSA, Okla. – On Sunday, UTSA Volleyball visited Tulsa for an American Conference matchup from Reynolds Center. The Roadrunners fell in straight sets (16-25, 23-25, 18-25), dropping to 10-6 on the season with an American record of 1-4. The hosts remained perfect in league play at 5-0, climbing to 13-3 overall.

FIRST SET

Starting setter Megan Hawkins and Valeria Ortiz found Isabella Arroyave for kills on back-to-back points, drawing even at four apiece. Tulsa responded with an 8-3 run, forcing a timeout before a second ace from the Golden Hurricane swelled the lead to six at the media stoppage. A 5-1 spurt out of the timeout left the hosts with a comfortable edge that they would not relinquish. Seven attack errors proved costly as the Roadrunners fell 25-16.

SECOND SET

Two straight Ally Tribe aces helped keep her side in the fight ahead of an eight-all stalemate. MaKinsey Jones then teamed up with Tribe for five kills over a 7-1 response that saw the ‘Runners pull ahead by five at the technical timeout. Sydney Bryant’s fifth kill of the night maintained the margin at 18-13 before the Golden Hurricane roared back. After each squad alternated seven straight rallies, Tulsa took its final lead at 23-22, ultimately taking the set by a 25-23 score.

THIRD SET

An early ace capped a 5-0 blitz from the hosts to open the stanza before they swelled their margin to seven at the media timeout. Jones then brought her side back within three courtesy of a kill and a block on two straight points. Tulsa claimed seven of the final 10 rallies, cruising to a match-clinching 25-18 final score.
