SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team hits the road for the first time in the 2026 campaign, heading to Fort Worth for Sunday’s matchup with sixth-ranked TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. The Roadrunners (0-0-1) and Horned Frogs (1-0-0) will kick off at 7 p.m. and the matchup will stream live on ESPN+.

Sunday’s 7 p.m. matchup will air live on ESPN+ with Chris Blake (play-by-play) and Chuck LaMendola (analyst) on the broadcast call.

About the Roadrunners
Coming off the 2025 American Conference Championship and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearance, UTSA got off to an exciting and physical start, going toe-to-toe in a 2-2 draw with 2025 Sun Belt Champion Texas State in Wednesday night’s 2026 opener at Park West. The Roadrunners proved resilient after falling behind in the opening minutes of the contest, battling back to even twice – first on sophomore preseason American watch list honoree Brooklyn Bailey’s 20th-minute penalty kick that froze keeper Caitlyn Draper, then freshman Dulci Binns finishing off redshirt sophomore Leah Varela’s 74th-minute free kick to make it 2-2. Though the Roadrunners fought for the result to the final minute, firing off two hot chances in the waning 42 seconds, the final horn sounded with a 2-2 finish.
In the opening game of the season, Bailey led the Roadrunners with three shots and two on goal, while Varela logged two shots with both on-target, and redshirt sophomore Ava Jackson added another pair of shots. UTSA outshot TXST by a 13-7 margin and placed seven on goal (.538). A 2025 All-Region Third Team honoree and Preseason American and United Soccer Coaches watch-lister, goalkeeper Jasmine Kessler had two saves against the Bobcats. An American All-Freshman Team honoree last season, Bailey paced the 2025 team with five assists, along with two goals. Meanwhile, Jackson registered three goals and three assists, and American All-Tournament honoree Aaliyaiah Durden had four goals and an assist last season.
Bolstered by 17 newcomers to the roster, 17 players appeared in the opening-day rotation against the Bobcats, with nine-first year players seeing time.
About the TCU Horned Frogs
Coming into 2026’s opening week ranked sixth nationally in both major polls (United Soccer Coaches, Top Drawer Soccer), the then-ninth-ranked Horned Frogs slipped past UTSA on an 81st-minute goal (1-0) early last season at Park West, going on to the Big 12 regular season title, an 18-3-3 record and a first-ever run to the NCAA College Cup semifinal in Kansas City. TCU finished last season at No. 4 in the final national standings and return eight starters from last year’s squad to open the 15th season under Eric Bell.
TCU debuted at 22nd-ranked Wisconsin and despite recording only two shots and none on goal, the Horned Frogs came out victorious on a 79th-minute UW own goal that 2025 Big 12 Freshman of the Year and All-Big 12 first-teamer Kamdyn Fuller’s header off the corner started the chain reaction. Returning starting keeper junior Olivia Geller made six saves against the Badgers and has 27 games of experience with a 0.85 career GAA and .784 save percentage. Geller, Fuller and Bella Diorio (2024 All-America Second Team, 11 career goals, 8 career assists, .438 SOG%) were all named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. The Horned Frogs also return All-Big 12 honorees in junior defender Cameron Patton (five goals, eight assists), junior forward Emma Yolinsky (nine goals, five assists) and junior midfielder Morgan Brown (All-America Third Team, three goals, five assists).
Series History
The Roadrunners are looking for their first series victory, trailing TCU 9-0 in the matchup that dates to UTSA’s first season in 2006. UTSA is 0-6 to date in Fort Worth. Last year on Aug. 17, an 81st-minute Patton score helped the Horned Frogs escape San Antonio with a win. In that game, Geller registered four saves for TCU, while Kessler account for six for the Roadrunners. Also in very recent history, these teams met in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, with UTSA taking a 3-1 postseason setback on Nov. 11, 2022.
UP NEXT: UTSA is back at home in the friendly confines of the Park West Athletics Complex two times next week, hosting the 2025 rematch with Colorado College in the Welcome Back Birdcage game on Thursday, Aug. 20, followed on Sunday, Aug. 23 with cross-town action against St. Mary’s for Salute to First Responders.
