LIMA, Perú – UTSA’s Isabella Arroyave is set to represent the Colombian senior national team as her nation gears up for Copa Sudamericana competition. The tournament features eight South American nations clashing in Lima, Peru from July 22-26 at Coliseo Eduardo Dibós. Colombia will look to finish atop the tournament that also features Argentina, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Bolivia.
Arroyave is one of nine NCAA Division I student-athletes participating at the competition, including fellow American Conference representative Fernanda Maida of UAB, who will represent Bolivia. Elsewhere, Georgia Tech has three standouts in the tournament, while Iowa State, UNLV, Marquette and Jacksonville round out the list. The third-year Roadrunner is one of two such Colombians, partnering up with the Yellow Jackets’ senior defensive specialist, Sofia Velez.
Colombia is slated to face off with each fellow member of Group B, beginning with Venezuela on Wednesday, July 22. After meeting Ecuador a day later, Arroyave and company will see Argentina across the net on Friday. Four nations, consisting of the top two finishers in each four-team group, will advance to Saturday’s semifinals. On Sunday, July 26, a champion will be crowned. All matches will be streamed live on the Latina Deportes Youtube channel.
The 2026 Copa Sudamericana awards qualification berths to multiple future tournaments, including the 2027 Pan American Games. At that competition, also hosted in Lima, nations can directly qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. A total of 24 squads (12 men’s and 12 women’s) will compete at the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad. Colombia is searching for its first-ever trip to the world’s greatest competition in women’s volleyball.
After the Copa Sudamericana wraps up, Colombia will compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games from Aug. 2-7 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. There, the squad will look to prevent the host nation from clinching a seventh straight gold medal at the contest. Venezuela, Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico await Colombia in the competition’s group stage from Professor Gioriver Arias Volleyball Palace.
In 2025, Arroyave appeared in 49 sets, tallying 59 kills, 19 digs and seven blocks. The outside hitter joined the program ahead of the 2024 campaign as a native of Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia. The junior will embark on her third regular season with the program next month in the Razorback Invitational at Arkansas, first taking on UT Arlington on Aug. 28.
