‘Runners fall to 49ers on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team suffered an 8-3 defeat at the hands of Charlotte on Saturday in American Conference action at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners (23-28, 11-12 American) fell to the 49ers (27-24, 11-12 American) as sophomore Reagan Stoudt (5-8) was pegged with the loss and Aubrey Yarnall (6-9) picked up the win.

Sophomores Skylar Rucker and Sabrina Wick each went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, with Wick driving in a pair of runs. Additionally, freshman Brookelynn Meador joined Wick with an RBI.

Charlotte struck first, plating five runs in the top of the second, before adding another in the third and one more in the fourth, stretching their advantage to seven.

UTSA got one back in the fifth as Rucker singled and swiped second before coming around and scoring on a sharply hit ball by Meador. The ‘Runners then loaded up the bases with two outs in the sixth, prompting a Wick single through the right side that pushed senior Madison Lenton and classmate Caton Letbetter across, trimming the deficit to four.

A solo shot in the seventh provided insurance for the 49ers, and from there, UTSA was unable to spark a comeback, falling 8-3.

The 49ers and Roadrunner will meet again with a Senior Day series finale set for Sunday at noon.
