Box Score

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team completed competition at the Birds Up Bash on Sunday, first beating Saint Francis, 11-6, before falling to UT Arlington, 11-4, at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners (10-11) bested the Red Flash (0-19) with sophomore Reagan Stoudt (1-5) picking up her first win of the campaign, scattering two hits across the final four frames, while Zoe Kesterson (1-2) got the loss.

Junior Taryn Madlock was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, with two home runs and four RBIs, with sophomore Skylar Rucker, senior Katia Reyes, and freshman Brookelynn Meador, all joining her in logging multiple hits.

SFU jumped on the board early with three in the top of the third. UTSA responded in the home half with Meador plating Rucker on a sacrifice fly, prompting a Madlock home run. From there, Redshirt sophomore Makayla Madrid singled before coming across on a sharply hit ball by freshman Arlette Hernandez that tied the contest

The Red Flash bats remained hot with five scoring in the second. The Roadrunners answered with three of their own off a two-run senior Caton Letbetter longball and an RBI single for Madlock.

After a scoreless third, SFU added on to its lead in the fourth, but UTSA battled back in the fourth, as a two-bagger by Meador knocked in Reyes and Madlock launched her second round-tripper of the game to work a 9-9 tie

Stoudt pitched a scoreless top of the fifth, and in the bottom of the frame, Rucker singled and dented the plate on a two-run bomb by Reyes that put UTSA up, 11-9.

From there, Stoudt kept the Red Flash off the scoreboard, cementing the victory.

In game two, Stoudt was issued the loss, while Maddie Furniss (4-3) snagged the win for the Mavericks (8-12). Meador went 2-for-4 in the effort with an RBI, and senior Madison Hornback had a two-run home run

Multiple longballs helped UTA to a four-run top of the first, and Rucker doubled to open the bottom of the inning. She later came around on an RBI groundout for sophomore Sabrina Wick, and Madlock walked before coming around on a Meador two-bagger.

The Mavericks added two to their total in the top of the second, and the Roadrunners matched thanks to Hornback’s dinger. From there, UTA scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the seventh to secure a win in the tournament’s finale.

The ‘Runners will now host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside Roadrunner Field.
