Stoudt goes the distance in 5-1 victory over Memphis

SAN ANTONIO – A sophomore Reagan Stoudt complete game helped propel the UTSA softball team past Memphis, 5-1, at Roadrunner Field, to improve to 5-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2019 campaign.

The Roadrunners (16-12, 5-0 American) topped the Tigers (7-18, 0-5 American) as Stoudt (4-4) picked up the win and Jericho Tate (2-5) was dealt the loss. Stoudt fanned four across seven innings, allowing only one run in what was the first complete game of her career. UTSA cemented back-to-back American Conference series victories with the win.

Sophomore Sabrina Wick, freshman Brookelynn Meador and classmate Demiree Stafford all posted three hits on the afternoon, with Wick, Meador, junior Taryn Madlock and classmate Samantha Mundine each driving in a run. Additionally, Stafford had a pair of doubles across the contest.

UTSA started off hot, scoring three in the bottom of the first after sophomore Skylar Rucker and Wick singled to open the frame. A base knock for Meador drove in one, and shortly after, Madlock worked a bases-loaded walk to push across another. A deep sac fly by Mundine followed, allowing Meador to dent the plate for a 3-0 lead.

Rucker reached base safely in the second, before swiping second, moving to third on a groundout, and coming home on a wild pitch to increase the advantage to four.

The Tigers got on the board in the fourth, scoring one on a single through the infield. Stoudt prevented any further damage with a strikeout that stranded two in scoring position.

UTSA tacked on an insurance run in the sixth as Stafford doubled, before coming around to score on a Wick RBI.

From there, Stoudt sealed the deal with a final strikeout, securing the 5-1 victory.

The Roadrunners and Tigers will close out the series on Sunday, with a noon first pitch at Roadrunner Field.
