Doubles Dominance Rolls on With Sunday Sweep

SAN ANTONIO – On Sunday, the Roadrunners’ women’s tennis team returned to action, hosting two matches from the friendly confines of the UTSA Tennis Center. The home side picked up a pair of wins on the day, cruising past New Mexico State and Incarnate Word. The victories bumped UTSA to 4-1 on the season as its home record remained perfect through four showings.

The Roadrunners have now clinched the team doubles point in all five contests this spring. UTSA is now 17-9 in singles action, including an 11-3 mark this weekend. At home, Ki Kroll’s bunch is undefeated, boasting a 4-0 record while holding 15 victories in 20 singles contests.

Head Coach Ki Kroll, on the team: “They’re just fighting. They’re going after it and giving it everything they can. I’m just so proud of them. They’re learning a lot in the process, which is important for our future. We’re pretty resilient, too. They just keep coming back, we keep fighting and keep working. They’re doing great right now.”

Match 4

The Roadrunners made quick work of the Aggies, taking doubles comfortably to start. Court three was the only to belong to NM State, with little hope for replication at the two nets to go unfinished. Natalia Castaneda Guerrero was the standout for the home side, contributing to a 6-3 doubles triumph before staying on the top court for singles play. There, she downed the Aggies’ best with back-to-back 6-2 wins, helping her side cruise to 3-1 on the season. Ayra Salim also picked up a solo victory in her first appearance of the spring, notching a 6-3, 6-3 score on court six.

Match 5

The home side came out of its break in stride, taking a 1-0 team lead into singles play yet again. This time, an in-city foe stood across the net, but Incarnate Word found the same luck as the Aggies before them. The Cardinals took victory just once, doing so on court one. Celine Absawi shone, though, coming away with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court two, carrying the momentum that had been set earlier by her doubles partner on court five. There, Laia Tarazona Peyro earned the quickest rest of the affair, crushing her way to a 6-2, 6-0 win. Akari Tomoyose also prevailed 6-4, 6-2 as her squad earned its second straight 4-1 triumph of the day, improving to that same mark on the 2026 season.
