COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UTSA track & field teams closed competition at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Saturday at R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track, wrapping up the day with a big record-setting jump in the national standings for redshirt junior Jemuel Miller.
A three-time All-American for the Roadrunners from Bridgetown, Barbados, Miller is back to full form for the Roadrunners after not competing indoors prior to January since the 2023 season. In one of the latter events of the day, Miller already held the triple jump lead heading into the final after going 15.97m (52-4.75) on his second attempt, but proceeded to blow that and his standing UTSA school record out of the water with a 16.42 (53-10.5) leap that accounts for the fifth-best NCAA mark this season.
Miller’s mark is the second-longest triple jump measurement in American Conference history.
Leading UTSA in the distance events, freshman Jocelyn Karry logged a personal-best 9:56.81 in the 3,000-meter, earning seventh place after both sections were completed. On the men’s side, O.J. Ruiz was fourth in his section with a season-best 8:36.27, finishing 12th overall.
Opening up the day’s competition in the men’s weight throw, sophomore Waylon McKenzie fired a career-best 17.59m (57-8.5) toss to finish ninth overall. Later, in the women’s shot put, junior Nyaluet Diew registered a 14.41m (47-3.5) measurement to finish in eighth.
Next time on the track for the Roadrunners, UTSA will travel outside of the Lone Star State for the first time in 2026, heading to the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, next weekend (Feb. 13-14), as a final competition leading up to the Feb. 27-28 American Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
