BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UTSA track & field teams will open the indoor postseason this weekend at the Birmingham Crossplex with the kickoff of the American Conference Indoor Championships. With the championship at the venue for the 10th consecutive time, UTSA is set for 14 women and 17 men to begin postseason competition, Feb. 27-28.
Last season, the Roadrunner women came within 3.5 points of the top spot, finishing second with 92.5 points, while the men were seventh. From that meet, Mia Lien returns from a second-place high jump finish, while Ida Breigan collected long jump gold and Nyaluet Diew won the shot put. No men’s medalists from last season are back in Birmingham this year.

Pacing the UTSA women in the rankings, Breigan is looking to earn her third consecutive long jump indoor championship. She ranks 18th nationally with an American-leading long jump measurement of 6.41m (21-0.5). A three-time All-American from Frederikstad, Norway, Breigan was previously the American Indoor Freshman of the Year and twice earned American Championships Indoor Field Most Outstanding Performance, setting the American Conference and Norwegian National records at the 2024 Championships. A sophomore from Jakobsli, Norway, Lien won the pentathlon last year and was second in the high jump, hitting a school and (pentathlon) meet-record 1.83m (6-0) during the pent at last year’s American meet – Lien is not scheduled for multi-events but will compete in the high jump with a No. 2 conference ranking on her season high of 1.79m (5-10.5). Topping the current conference standings in that event at 29th in the NCAA with a 1.81m (5-11.25) lift, Tallinn, Estonia junior Edlin Laur was fifth in the high jump and 11th in the pentathlon at last year’s meet. He’s looking for his first conference title since 2023 after missing both of the past two American Championships due to injury. A newcomer to UTSA in jumps, Williston, N.D. junior transfer Jayden Williams is at second in the long jump with a 7.65m (25-1.25) measurement that tied for third in the UTSA record book. Heading up the heptathlon efforts, Juuru, Estonia freshman Janre Jõgi leads the conference after setting meet and facility records of 5,352 points in Nevada to open the season.
