ABILENE, Texas – On Friday, UTSA Women’s Tennis hits the road for the first time this spring. The Roadrunners will visit in-state foe Abilene Christian for a 1 p.m. clash as both sides look to clinch their second win of the campaign.
LAST TIME OUT
The ‘Runners hosted St. Mary’s a week ago to open their spring slate. The hosts took a 5-2 victory over their in-city, NCAA Division II foe, starting the season with a victory for the third straight year. All three Roadrunner pairings prevailed in doubles play, with four individuals earning victories in singles action. Results from last week’s match can be found here.
2025 REVIEW
Last season, the Roadrunners achieved the highest ITA ranking in program history after a historic best start of 13-0. The surge that ran into late February saw the squad climb as high as No. 44 in the national standings. The Roadrunners finished the campaign at 19-5, reaching the second round of the American Conference Championships in Memphis before falling to top-seeded Florida Atlantic.
UTSA welcomes back Natalia Castaneda Guerrero, Milica Milosavljevic, Aoka Nagasawa and Valeria Sanchez with four players lost from last year’s roster. Joining the 2026 squad are Haifa, Israel freshman Celine Absawi, Sicilian freshman Giuliana Giardina, Picassent, Spain freshman Laia Tarazona Peyro and transfer sophomores Ayra Salim (Portland State, San Diego, Calif.) and Akari Tomoyose (Cowley College, Okinawa, Japan).
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
UTSA and ACU will meet for the first time since Feb. 1, 2025, when the Roadrunners claimed a 6-1 victory at UTSA Tennis Center. The Wildcats of the WAC went 6-13 last season, bowing out of the WAC Championships in the semifinals after defeating Seattle in the quarterfinals.
UP NEXT
UTSA will return to action one week after the match, doing so at home versus Sam Houston on Friday, Feb. 6. The Roadrunners’ contest with the Bearkats is slated to begin at 11 a.m., with the action available to follow via StatBroadcast.
