‘Runners to battle Pirates on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team is set to host East Carolina on Tuesday in a 6:30 p.m. showdown at the Convocation Center.

The game will be the Roadrunners' annual Salute to Hometown Heroes, and UTSA is asking fans to don blue for a Blue Out. As part of the festivities, students will receive free pizza upon entry, and while supplies last, fans can receive a free blue UTSA hat presented by Belfor.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Alex Loeb (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst), and Katie Goodman (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app. Live stats for the contest can be found at goUTSA.com/wbbstats, and tickets are available for purchase at goUTSA.com/wbbtickets.

The Roadrunners (9-7, 4-1 American) will face off with the Pirates (13-6, 5-1 American) after besting Florida Atlantic, 79-42, on Friday. UTSA connected on 54% of its shots against the Owls, with FAU managing only 28%. Seniors Ereauna Hardaway and Cheyenne Rowe led the way, with Hardaway charting a season-high 20 points while Rowe poured in 19 with eight rebounds and two blocks. Also performing well, freshman Adriana Robles scored 10, and sophomore Mia Hammonds seven with seven rebounds and multiple blocks.

The ‘Runners enter the contest ranked atop the American and 47th nationally with a field goal defense of 36.8%. UTSA is also 45th in the NCAA with a 57.9 scoring defense. Offensively, nobody in the league has been as efficient as Rowe, who sinks shots at a 46.1% clip.

ECU sits half a game above UTSA in the conference standings as they’re tied with South Florida for second. The Pirates excel at getting to the charity stripe with 16.0 made free throws a game, slotting them 17th in the country. Additionally, they take care of the basketball with a 5.68 turnover margin, placing them 32nd, and 73.7 points per game pace the American.

Kennedy Fauntleroy plays a major role in their success, with 53 steals ranking her 21st across the NCAA, and she’s third in the league with 82 assists. She’s their leading scorer at 13.8 points per game, with Taylor Barner not far behind at 12.6. Anzhane Hutton commands the boards to the tune of 6.2 rebounds per game, and Savannah Brooks plays a major role defensively with 37 steals and 14 blocks.
