SAN ANTONIO— The UTSA women’s basketball took down Prairie View A&M, 86-40 on Saturday in nonconference action at the Convocation Center, for the squad’s largest margin of victory against an NCAA Division I opponent since besting Nicholls by 53 on Jan. 14, 2008.
The Roadrunners (4-5, 0-0 The American) topped the Lady Panthers (2-7, 0-0 SWAC) as junior Idara Udo recorded her third double-double of the season, to the tune of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Mia Hammonds racked up a career-best 17 points to go with six boards and a steal, while classmate Damara Allen also logged a personal benchmark with 14. Rounding out the double-digit scoring club, junior Jayda Holiman logged 11 and senior Ereauna Hardaway 10, marking the first time the ‘Runners have had five accomplish the feat since Jan. 15, 2025, against Memphis.
Senior Cheyenne Rowe snagged 14 rebounds for a new career-high, and along with Udo became the first pair of Roadrunners to record 10-plus rebounds in a single game since Udo and current professional Jordyn Jenkins did so in the same contest against Memphis a season ago. Additionally, Hardaway led the contest with seven assists, one short of her collegiate best.
PVAMU opened up the contest with back-to-back triples, ahead of an Udo jumper and an Allen trey that pulled the squad within one. Udo knotted things with a freebie, but the Lady Panthers tickled the twine to remain out in front, 8-6. After trading blows, an Allen bucket kick-started an 8-2 run that was capped off by a Hardaway three-pointer. From there, PVAMU beat the buzzer for a 19-16 score line entering the second quarter.
UTSA started the period on fire, riding a 10-2 surge to a 29-18 advantage. The ‘Runners kept the momentum going, with a later five-point stretch working a 14-point edge, ahead of a 40-25 halftime score.
PVAMU scored the first three points coming out of the locker room, before a 20-1 run for UTSA saw a 60-29 lead. The Lady Panthers knocked down a pair from the charity stripe for a 60-31 score at the start of the fourth.
From there, the ‘Runners never looked back, cruising to an 86-40 victory.
UTSA will next face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Monday for Rowdy’s Fast Break Field Trip, with tipoff set for 11 a.m. inside the Convocation Center.
