SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners (12-12, 5-8) take down Temple (15-12, 5-8) in Friday night thriller 3-2 (21-25, 25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 15-12) on Nov. 7 at the Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas: Megan Hawkins and Caroline Tredwell not career highs in outstanding offensive performance.
Set One
UTSA tied the match up at 5-5 on a three-point scoring run capped off by a Peyton Turner service ace, her first since Sept. 19 against North Florida. Temple took a 10-7 lead on the back of a three-point run. They then took a 14-8 lead on a four-point surge. A three-point run cut the Temple lead to 14-11. Temple won the race to 20 with a 20-13 lead. UTSA went on a three-point run with Tredwell recording three kills in that span to make it 20-16. Temple won the first set 25-21.
Set Two
The Roadrunners kicked off the second set with a three-point run. A four-point surge gave the Roadrunners a 9-4 lead. The Roadrunners went on a three-point scoring surge to go up 15-10 over the Owls. UTSA rode a five-point scoring surge to win the race to 20, being up by nine. UTSA closed out the set victory, winning 25-15.
Set Three
After losing the first point of the set, the Roadrunners went on a four-point surge. The Roadrunners then went on a three-point run to go up 7-2 over the Owls. Temple was able to battle back as they cut the UTSA lead to just one with a score of 14-13. Temple managed to take an 18-16 lead. The Roadrunners then came back with a nine-point scoring run to win the third set 25-18.
Set Four
After 12 points, the set was tied at 6-6. Temple then went on a five-point run to go up 11-7. Temple maintained their lead as they went up 19-12. The Roadrunners managed to come all the way back and cut the Temple lead to one, Temple having 21, UTSA with 20. Temple was able to win the match 25-21.
Set Five
After going back and forth, the Roadrunners finally picked up some momentum as they went on a three-point scoring run to go up 8-5. Temple battled back to cut the lead 11-10. The Roadrunners managed to close it out, winning the final two points to take the match, winning the fifth set 15-12.
Notes
- Tredwell had 21 kills on the match for her eighth double-digit kill match of the season.
- Tredwell’s 21 kills are a new career high for the sophomore middle blocker.
- Giada Obregon had 20 digs for her 16th double-digit dig match of her career.
- Ally Tribe notched 19 digs for her 11th double-digit dig match of the season.
- With 19 digs and 20 kills, Tribe recorded her ninth double-double of the season.
- Turner recorded 21 digs for her eighth double-digit dig match of the season, which also ties her career high.
- Hawkins had 55 assists for a new career high, beating her previous best of 32.
- Brooke Elliott had 13 Kills for a career high.
- Isabella Arroyave had 10 kills, tying her career high.
- Hawkins picked up her seventh double-double with 55 assists and 12 digs.
