SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team will head across town on Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. Hometown Showdown on the docket against UIW.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, and Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (1-2, 0-0 American) are coming off a 64-41 Battle for I-35 victory over Texas State that represented their first of the campaign. The win was the 350th of head coach Karen Aston's career, and it also represented UTSA's 17th consecutive win in the Convocation Center.
Senior Cheyenne Rowe and sophomore Mia Hammonds each charted a game-high 16 points, while Rowe tallied eight rebounds and four assists, and Hammonds pulled down five boards. Junior Idara Udo performed well, finishing one point and one rebound shy of a double-double, and sophomore Emilia Dannebauer racked up eight rebounds and scored six. Additionally, Rowe was named an American Conference Honorable Mention Player of the Week for her excellence.
Similarly, the Cardinals (1-2, 0-0 Southland) are fresh off an 86-72 win over St. Thomas, after falling to No. 4 Texas (123-51) and Abilene Christian (69-56) to start the year. Destiny Whitaker paces the team with 14.0 points per game, and Jorja Elliott joins her in the double-digit scoring club at 10.7. Raimi McCrary patrols the glass with 11.0 rebounds per game, and former Roadrunner Madison Cockrell has dished out a team-high 16 assists. Elliott has excelled defensively, recording five blocks and four steals.
