UTSA falls to Tulane in five sets

NEW ORLEANS – UTSA falls to Tulane in five sets 3-2 (19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 17-15, 17-25) on Friday, Oct. 31, at the Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans, La.

Set One
UTSA started hot as they ripped off a five-point scoring run to go up 8-5 over Tulane. In a hard-fought battle to kick the first set off, the Roadrunners rode a three-point scoring surge to lead Tulane 14-11. UTSA won the race to 20, leading the Green Wave by three. UTSA closed out the win on a three-point run, winning 25-19.

Set Two
Tulane took an early 13-6 lead over the Roadrunners. Tulane was able to win the race to 20, leading the Roadrunners by six. They then took the second set, winning 25-16.

Set Three
The Roadrunners and the Green Wave traded blows as the Roadrunners were down 15-12 at the media timeout in the third set. Tulane won the race to 20 once again as they were up by five points. Tulane was able to close out the set win, winning 25-20.

Set Four
UTSA found itself in another hard-fought set as the game was tied 7-7. The Roadrunners then took a 16-9 lead on the back of a five-point scoring surge. UTSA was able to win the race to 20 thanks to a three-point scoring surge. UTSA was able to force set five winning the fourth set 25-17.

Set Five
The Roadrunners took a 6-4 lead in the fifth set thanks to a kill from Gigi Mason. Megan Hawkins got an ace to put UTSA up 8-5. Tulane then mounted a comeback as they took the lead at 14-12. UTSA fought and forced match point as they came back to lead 15-14. The Roadrunners were unable to close it out as Tulane went on a three-point scoring run to win 17-15.

Notes
- Ally Tribe had 16 kills for her ninth double-digit kill match of the season.
- Mason notched 21 kills for her fifth double-digit kill match of her career.
- Isabella Arroyave recorded 10 kills for her first double-digit kill match of her career.  
- Giada Obregon recorded 26 digs for a career high.
- Arroyave recorded career highs in kills (10), attacks (35) and digs (5)
