FORT WORTH — The Roadrunners close out ITA Regional Championship play on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Four Roadrunners managed to make it all the way to the main straw stage in Giuliana Giardina, Celine Absawi, Aoka Nagasawa and Valeria Sanchez. Giardina faced off against Maria Castano in the first round of the main draw and fell 6-1, 6-1.
Absawi was matched up against Emma Persson out of Tarleton and fell 6-0, 7-6 (9) in her first match in the main draw. Nagasawa faced up against Wenfei Yu out of Baylor in her first match in the main draw and fell 6-0, 6-1. Sanchez took on Houston’s Chems Doha Zeghlouli in round one of the main draw, where she fell 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, a team of Giardina and Laia Tarzona Peyro took down a pair of UT Arlington Mavericks 8-1 but then fell to a pair of TCU Horned Frogs 8-1. Absawi and Nagasawa teamed up to take on a Rice doubles team but lost 8-5.
Milica Milosavljevic and Ayra Salim were paired up together and tasked with playing against a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi duo; however, they fell 8-6. Natalia Castaneda Guerrero and Sanchez took on a North Texas team but lost 8(7)-7(4).
