About the Roadrunners
Freshman Kamryn Watson scored a 37th-minute goal off Zoё May’s setup in Thursday’s Hometown Showdown victory at Toyota Field, logging the gamewinner on UTSA remaining perfect at 3-0 in the series with UIW
An elite defensive team in the NCAA this season, which is a normal fixture for eighth-year head coach Derek Pittman’s teams, UTSA now ranks 14th nationally in goals-against-average (0.29) after registering the fifth shutout of the year, 10th in save percentage (.933) and 19th in shutout percentage at .714 – leading the American Conference in all three stats. Making 37 consecutive career starts and now the UTSA all-time career shutouts and draws leader, Jasmine Kessler is individually at 20th nationally in GAA (0.32) 16th in save percentage (.929) and 17th with three shutouts. She leads the conference in all three standards. Offensively, Watson joins May and classmate Brookly Bailey with goals this season. Junior Michelle Polo leads UTSA with 12 shots, while Bailey and senior Izzy Lane each have 11 apiece.
About the East Texas A&M Lions
Formerly Texas A&M-Commerce until this season, East Texas A&M is off to a 3-3 start in the fourth season under Ashley Gordon, following up a 9-10-3 campaign that saw the Lions reach the Southland Conference championship match. East Texas A&M’s last outing saw an 8-0 home loss to Tulsa on Thursday, breaking a two-game win streak with victories over Grambling (2-1) and Abilene Christian (1-0) the week prior.
Former SLC freshman of the year, junior forward Mya Mitchell has four of the Lions’ seven goals, with an assist as well. Junior Hannah Bell has two goals and two assists for ETAMU and leads the team with 16 shots. The Lions average 11.8 shots per game and a .352 SOG percentage.
