About the Roadrunners
Logging six straight without a loss (dating back to Aug. 28), UTSA is 4-0-1 in September after Thursday’s streak-snapping 1-1 draw at UAB. Redshirt freshman forward Ava Jackson used a cross off the edge to push a header over to senior forward Izzy Lane in the 63rd minute. Though Lane’s shot saw a UAB save, Jackson crashed on the ricochet and netted the game-tying goal right up the middle to preserve UTSA’s unbeaten streak.

The Roadrunners have delivered boosted offense this season, notching 1.09 goals and 13.9 shots per game (fifth in the American), set up by the nationally elite defensive numbers that are helping them sit in a three-way tie at the top of the American Conference standings. Despite giving only the fourth goal allowed this season in Birmingham, UTSA remains ninth nationally in goals-against-average at 0.36, seventh in save percentage at .905 and 22nd in shutout percentage at .636 with seven clean sheets on the year. The Roadrunners have gone 15 consecutive outings allowing one goal or less, dating back to last October. Leading that effort with 41 consecutive starts, junior Jasmine Kessler ranks 11th in the NCAA in GAA (0.39) and 10th in save percentage (.897). Pacing the offense, senior midfielder Zoë May has three goals with a team-high two assists, taking seven of her 14 shots on goal for a .500 SOG%. Redshirt sophomore defender Aaliyaiah Durden and Jackson also have a pair of goals apiece, among the seven Roadrunners who have netted one this year. Topping the shot chart, freshman forward Brooklyn Bailey has racked up 21 shots, while Lane went on target at a .563 clip (9-of-16) with the second-most team shots.

Sunday is another big challenge for the crowd at Park West, who continue to show up and get rowdy, ranking 50th nationally on a 763 average attendance. At home since 2020, Park West is its own opponent for the visitors, as UTSA has won 69.5 percent of its games on a 25-9-7 record.

About the Charlotte 49ers
Taking on the 2025 campaign under interim coach Sinead Byrne, the 49ers have boosted their offensive numbers to always force a result at 5-4 – after finishing 2024 as a draw-heavy squad. They are fresh off a win in Denton, toppling North Texas on Thursday, 3-2. Already matching last year’s scoring total, Charlotte averages 1.44 goals per outing, showing some efficiency at a .482 SOG% on the 11.0 shot per game average. Senior midfielder Amelia Brown, senior transfer midfielder Naroa Domenech and junior forward Evie Craven pace the team with three goals apiece – Domenech topping the team with 20 shots and 13 on-goal attempts (.650). Megan Bradley and Landry Olson have each delivered a team-high three assists. Between the pipes, junior Mississippi State transfer Harlee Head holds a 1.41 GAA and .750 save percentage, allowing 12 goals in nine outings this season, but only notching one shutout. The 49ers’ opponents have kept her busy, as Charlotte averages 4.6 saves per game and ranks fourth in the American in the stat.

Series history
Sunday will be the ninth meeting between these programs and UTSA holds a 3-3-2 advantage in the history, going 2-1-1 at home. Head coach Derek Pittman is 3-0-1 against the 49ers, following last year’s scoreless draw in Charlotte, which snapped Pittman and the Roadrunners’ three-game series win streak. The last Charlotte win was on Oct. 1, 2017 at Park West.

UP NEXT: It’s a big one on the road for UTSA next Thursday in Houston, as the Roadrunners travel to 25th-ranked Rice at Holloway Field. Sunday will bring the Roadrunners’ third weekend BYE of the season.
