UTSA announces signing of Josie Karry

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Wednesday, Aug. 6, that the Roadrunners are adding McKinney distance runner Josie Karry to the track and cross country rosters for the upcoming season. Joining the 2025 cross country unit, Karry will add her talents to the first roster to work with new distance coach Harrison Tillman this fall.

"We’re excited to add a Texas-native distance runner to our squad for next season,” Fox said. “Josie has delivered a steady progression in her race times, and we’re excited to help her reach her athletic goals and support her academic success.”

Coming to San Antonio out of McKinney Boyd High School, Karry was cross country team captain and finished third at the Nike Cross Regionals (NXR) South Championships in the Woodlands last fall, following a sixth-place UIL District 6-6A Championship finish on a 19:10.00 career-best 5k time. She was 23rd at the UIL 1A-6A Regional Championships at 19:14.40. On the track this season, Karry finished eighth at Districts in the 800-meter and notched a 2:27.06 PR this year, while also coming in ninth in the 3,200-meter, setting her PR in 2024 with an 11:15.90 clocking. In 2024, Karry was fifth at the UIL District 5-6A Championships in the 3,200-meter and seventh in the 1,600-meter, setting her PR time of 5:18.98 earlier in the season. Down the stretch in the 2023 cross country campaign, Karry notched a fifth-place 5k finish at the District 5-6A Championships. She also garnered previous District medals in the 3,200m (2nd) and 1,600m (3rd) during the 2023 season.
