About the Roadrunners
The Roadrunners captured their first win of the season on Thursday, assuming an aggressive attacking stance against crosstown foe St. Mary’s, downing the visiting Rattlers 3-0 after leveraging a 22-6 shot advantage toward the victory. The Roadrunners only allowed two shots on goal and notched 11 of their own versus StMU. Thursday produced NCAA career-first goals for redshirt sophomore Aaliyaiah Durden, breaking the stalemate in the 33rd minute, followed by freshman Brooklyn Bailey in the 66th – both goals coming off header strikes off services across the goal. On the third score, redshirt freshman Leah Varela pressured the Rattlers into an own goal. Junior Michelle Polo leads the Roadrunners with seven shots, while senior Izzy Lane has put 3-of-5 on target.

After opening up against a pair of stiff Big 12 Conference defenses, the Roadrunners average 12.33 shots per game for the fifth-highest rate in the American Conference. Allowing only one goal against ninth-ranked TCU through three outings, junior Jasmine Kessler has paced UTSA’s in-goal minutes, ranking third in the league with a 0.36 goals-against-average and also third with a .929 save percentage for her 13 stops (4.33 spg).

About the Lamar Cardinals
Coming to San Antonio for the first time of fourth-year head coach Nathan Kogut’s tenure in Beaumont, Lamar is looking for its first win of the season and taking in the third consecutive road contest of the year. At 0-2, the Cardinals dropped their opener at Louisiana and the latest was a 1-0 setback at Texas A&M. Lamar did not play a midweek game, heading to Park West with fresher legs.

Lamar’s lone score on the season belongs to junior college transfer Lauren Smith from the Louisiana opener. Smith leads the team with three shots, two on goal, among the Cardinals’ 7.0 shots per game average. Goalkeeping duties have gone exclusively to English freshman Eloise Bywater, who has logged nine saves, a .643 save percentage and 2.50 GAA through two outings.

Series history
Logging a historic base from UTSA’s time in the Southland Conference, the Roadrunners and Cardinals meet for the 10th time but the first since a 2-1 UTSA home victory in Sept. 2021. The Roadrunners hold a 6-2-1 advantage in the overall series and are 3-1-1 at home.

UP NEXT: UTSA will hit the road for the first time in the 2025 campaign, traveling to the Centennial State for a pair of games next week at Mountain West foes. UTSA will travel to Fort Collins to meet Colorado State on Thursday night, then wrap the trip in Colorado Springs at Colorado College on Sunday for the Roadrunners’ first day game. UTSA will next play in San Antonio on Sept. 4 with the Hometown Showdown against UIW at Toyota Field.
