SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Friday that the Roadrunners and first-year cross country coach Harrison Tillman are adding Seguin native Madison Gilliam to the distance roster this fall in San Antonio.
"Madison has shown the ability to compete at multiple distances and produce steady growth in distances and on the cross country course,” Fox said. “We’re excited to get her started this season working toward her goals in competition and in the classroom.”
Joining the Roadrunners from Seguin in Guadalupe County, Gilliam competed in a variety of events for Navarro High School across her prep career, running four years of cross country, while also mixing in sprints with middle distance during track competition. Last fall, Gilliam earned 30th at the UIL State Cross Country Championships in Round Rock, registering a career-best 12:10.40 in the 3,200-meter race. Leading up to the state championships at the 2-mile distance, Gilliam came in ninth at the District 26-4A meet and fifth at the Region IV/1A-6A Championships. Across her high school career, she registered a top 5k time of 20:57.0.
During last outdoor track season, Gilliam earned fourth place in the 400-meter at both the UIL District 26-4A and Area 25-26 meets, recording a personal-best 1:00.32 during the district preliminaries. Gilliam also earned bronze in the 800-meter at the Area 25 & 26 meet, posting a career-best 2:17.30 during her senior year.
