SAN ANTONIO – It was an exciting all-out battle between the UTSA soccer team (0-1-1) and the visiting ninth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday night at the Park West Athletics Complex. The Roadrunners left everything on the pitch in pushing the nationally ranked foe to a stalemate that extended into the 80th minute before the Horned Frogs netted the game-winner – after fending off several precise Roadrunner strikes to escape with the win.
The Roadrunners proved the early aggressor, claiming a 3-2 shooting advantage through the first 25 minutes of action on Sunday night. Going right at goalkeeper Olivia Geller straightaway, Zoë May registered UTSA’s first on-goal attempt just 1:31 after kickoff, followed by a free kick from Leah Varela and an intercepted pass turned breakaway 1v1 between Michelle Polo and goalkeeper Olivia Geller, all three of UTSA’s shots went on-target in the first half.
Making the most of their opportunities, the Roadrunners logged 4-of-5 shots on goal for the night.
Goalkeeper Jasmine Kessler shook off TCU’s barrage and logged four saves into the final 10 minutes of the game. However, in the 80th minute, Allyson Brown drove the ball up the left side from midfield, pushing ahead to Grace Vest, who cut the ball to the backside of the goal to find Cameron Patton for the draw-busting score.

Quoting Coach Derek Pittman
“It was a tremendous test. The attitude, the effort, the mentality that the kids put in for 90 minutes, we’re not satisfied but I’m extremely proud of our team. This is going to fuel us as we continue to move forward and use our depth as much as we possibly can. Being able to play a team like this tonight gives our players a lot of confidence and I know it’s going to fuel the fire in us to continue moving forward. Excited about where we are at and excited to get rested, recovered and get back to work as we get ready for a good contest against St. Mary’s.”
