SAN ANTONIO – On Friday, head coach Aaron Fox announced the addition of former Texas A&M standout Harrison Tillman to the coaching staff as an assistant coach, with responsibilities including cross country and distance events.
"We are thrilled to welcome Harrison Tillman to the coaching staff for the UTSA track and cross country programs," Fox said. "With his background at Texas A&M both competing and coaching in that championship program, and the success he's had in recruiting champions and developing the program at Meridian, it makes us very excited about what lies ahead and the prospects of what he can accomplish here."
Tillman spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach in a similar role at Meridian Community College, where he helped Privilege Chikara to a 2024 NJCAA Women's Indoor National Championship in the 800m and a seven second personal records. He also saw Nhamoinesu Mabvuka finish third in the 2025 NJCAA Women's Outdoor 5,000-meter.
"I am thrilled and humbled to be the next coach to help lead the cross country teams and distance group at UTSA," Tillman said. "I view it as an honor to work with Coach Fox and I'm thankful for the opportunity to team up with the A-list staff assembled here. The level of excellence that UTSA student-athletes operate with is high and I'm looking forward to getting to know our squad and getting to work. Most importantly, I am thankful to God for giving me the strength and passion on a daily basis for the great things ahead. I'm excited to get this cross country season kicked off and start preparing our athletes for competition."
Prior to his time with the Eagles, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Texas A&M for 2022-23, aiding in the development and implementation of training plans. In College Station, he coached the first- and second-place finishers in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Championships, along with point scorers in five other events (1500-meter, 5,000-meter, and 10,000-meter on the men's side; 10,000m and steeplechase on the women's).
Tillman competed for the Aggies from 2017 to 2022, where he excelled on the course and in the classroom, earning SEC Honor Roll in seven different semesters. He received a bachelor's degree in communication from Texas A&M in Spring 2021 and a master's in sports management in Spring 2022.
