Two Roadrunner student-athletes named American scholar-athletes

IRVING, Texas – UTSA Baseball’s James Taussig was named the American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Tuesday. Taussig was also named The American Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Joining him in this honor is Danijal Muminovic, who was named Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Taussig is the first UTSA student-athlete to be named an American Scholar-Athlete of the year. He is also the first Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year UTSA has had in its history. Taussig racked up a plethora of awards for the Roadrunners, being named to the American First-Team All-Conference and the Austin Regional All-Tournament Team, as well as being the Austin Regional Most Outstanding Player.

Taussig made 52 starts, recording the third most RBIs on the team with 65, putting him tied for sixth in single-season RBIs in program history.

Taussig helped the Roadrunners to the best season in program history with a 47-15 overall record and an American Athletic Conference regular-season championship. UTSA won the school’s first-ever NCAA Regional and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional. The top-10 NCAA finish (t-9th) was the first by any sport in UTSA history.

Muminovic capped his UTSA career with honors as an American Conference Sport Scholar-Athlete of the Year, rounding out a banner year for the honors grad from Tuzla, Bosnia. Earning his second American All-Academic Team honor, Muminovic also just received his third consecutive College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades after graduating with a 3.97 cumulative GPA on his double-major in Business Analytics, Operations and Supply Chain Management, with a minor in Management Science. A recognizable member of the Honors College program with an experiential enrichment component over the past three academic years, Muminovic just earned his fourth Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete nod, was the UTSA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) secretary during the final year of his three SAAC terms, finished his second year on the select UTSA President’s Student Advisory Council and became Vice President of Finance for Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. Muminovic was also among the student-athlete representatives who testified in the Texas House and Senate about student-athlete impact and UTSA’s effect and future within the state during UTSA Day at the Capital in February. At this year’s Rowdy Awards, Muminovic received the Roadrunner Pride Award and Hathaway Academic Athlete of the Year Award.

Muminovic helped the Roadrunners to their fifth consecutive 10-win season at 12-11 and advancing to the second round of the American Championships in 2025. Playing largely on court two singles this season, he co-led the Roadrunners in singles victories with a 12-6 record (11-5 on two), winning his final five matches. In doubles, he finished 8-7 on the year. In the fall, Muminovic finished as runner-up at the inaugural American Conference Individual Championships, reaching the title match after defeating the No. 1, No. 8 and No. 5 seeds.

Finishing in 2025 with a strong conclusion, Muminovic was part of some of the biggest recent milestones for the program, including a program-high No. 34 ITA ranking, an NCAA-leading 14-match win streak and a program-first At-Large selection to the NCAA tournament in 2023 with an 18-7 team record. Muminovic wrapped his UTSA career with an overall singles record of 44-27 (.620) in spring season and 66-40 (.623) combined fall/spring.
