‘Runners fall to Golden Hurricane in Opening Round of American Softball Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – The UTSA softball team suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tulsa in the Opening Round of the 2025 American Athletic Conference Softball Championship on Wednesday at the USF Softball Stadium.

The Roadrunners (21-34) fell to the Golden Hurricane (21-32), as freshman Ava Eldridge (8-10) was dealt the loss despite allowing just one run, while Brinly Maples (6-7) picked up the win for Tulsa. Senior Crislyne Moreno and freshman Skylar Rucker paced the offense, each logging multiple hits.

UTSA threatened in the top of the second, as Moreno singled and sophomore Kalee Rochinski was plunked to put two on with no outs. The duo advanced into scoring position on a groundout, but the Golden Hurricane found a pair of outs to escape the inning unscathed. In the home half, Tulsa loaded up the bases, but Eldridge induced a lazy fly ball to keep the contest scoreless.

The Golden Hurricane again looked to push across a run with consecutive singles to open the bottom of the third. Junior Madison Hornback then turned a double play, and senior Lindsey Davis threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning. However, an RBI walk saw a 1-0 Tulsa lead in the fourth.

Looking to answer in the sixth, Prichard and Rochinski both worked base knocks, and freshman Sabrina Wick was issued a free pass to load the bases with one out. Maples found a way out of the jam, posting back-to-back strikeouts to keep her team in front.

In the top of the seventh, senior Camryn Robillard walked, and Rucker singled, ahead of a diving catch and a fly out. Tulsa found the put away pitch to secure the one-run victory, closing the book on UTSA’s season, with 21 wins marking the most since the 2019 campaign.
