‘Runners fall to Bulls in regular-season finale

TAMPA, Fla. – The UTSA softball team suffered a 10-2 run-rule defeat at the hands of South Florida in an American Athletic Conference regular-season finale at the USF softball stadium.

The Roadrunners (21-33, 6-21 The American) fell to the Bulls (41-14-1, 20-6-1 The American), as junior Katia Reyes (3-4) was pegged with the loss and Anne Long (8-4) picked up the win. For the ‘Runners, freshman Skylar Rucker, junior Caton Letbetter and senior Lindsey Davis all logged hits.

USF struck in the bottom of the first, as a UTSA error put a runner on base ahead of a two-run home run. The ‘Runners replied in the top of the second as senior Crislyne Moreno reached via a fielder’s choice and sophomore Kalee Rochinski was plunked ahead of a Letbetter single and a Bulls miscue that plated the pair and tied things up.

A grand slam for USF allowed them to regain a 6-2 edge in the bottom of the second. They added four more in the third to go up 10-2 and never looked back, cruising to the run-rule victory.

UTSA will remain in Tampa, as they are set to open the American Athletic Conference Championship tournament on Wednesday. The Roadrunners are set to take on No. 8 Seed Tulsa in the Opening Round, with first pitch set for 9 a.m. CT.
