Roadrunners close out the regular season with a 7-0 victory

SAN ANTONIO — Roadrunners complete the sweep over Rice on a 7-0 victory on Saturday, May 17, at Roadrunner Field, San Antonio, Texas. UTSA closed the regular season with a 42-11 overall record and a 23-4 American Athletic Conference record.

The Roadrunners jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as James Taussig singled up the middle to score Norris McClure, who reached on a single. The Roadrunners added one run in the second thanks to Nate Hodge, who singled to right field, scoring Lytle, who led off the inning with a single to right field.

In the third, Lytle drove in the third UTSA run of the game on a sacrifice fly to center field to score Taussig, who reached on a walk. In the fourth, Andrew Stucky was able to score from second on a wild pitch, giving UTSA a 4-0 lead.

N. Hodge led the sixth inning off with a solo home run, his second homer in the past two games. Detlefsen then drove in the Roadrunner’s sixth run on a single to right field to score Stucky.

Caden Miller gave UTSA its seventh run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the seventh to score Lytle.

The Roadrunner arms came to play as they held the Owls to just four hits and no runs. James Hubbard started the game for UTSA and didn’t allow a hit, fanning four Owls.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- With two hits on the day, Detlefsen picked up his 19th multi-hit game of the season.
- Lytle also had two hits for his 27th multi-hit game of the year.
- N. Hodge recorded two hits and two RBIs for his eighth multi-hit game and sixth multi-RBI game of the season.

UP NEXT:
The Roadrunners will head to Clearwater, Fla., to compete in the American Athletic Conference Championship presented by Regions as the No. 1 seed. UTSA will take on the eighth seed Rice Owls in game two of the tournament, 47 minutes after the conclusion of game one on Tuesday, May 20, at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.
